Yuka (ユカ) is the name of a girl who spread a rumor about Sawako Kuronuma, having heard another rumor about her from Ume Kurumizawa. At the very beginning of Kimi ni Todoke, Yuka was implied to have fallen sick after staring at Sawako unknowingly.
When Sawako herself appears to Yuka and her friends in an attempt to dispel the rumors, Yuka reacts by pushing Sawako to the floor and putting a foot on her chest. Eventually, the subjects of the initial rumors, Ayane Yano and Chizuru Yoshida, rescue Sawako while also dismissing Yuka and her friends.
In the last episode of the anime, Yuka and her friends hear Shouta Kazehaya's revelation of his new relationship with Sawako. Out of jealousy, they hurl insults at Sawako as well as Kurumi, who responds that Kazehaya will not forgive them for hurting Sawako. Yuka and her friends are later told off by Ayane and Chizuru.
Yuka and her friends appear one more time in the manga, during the third-year cultural festival. They happen to pass by Sawako and Kazehaya but ignore them.
Background[]
Yuka also had a crush on Shouta Kazehaya, having been in the same middle school as him, Kurumi and Chizuru, although it is not certain whether she was in the same class as them.
Etymology[]
- The name Yuka is written in katakana (ユカ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (由香 or 由佳), it could possibly mean:
- 由香 - "reason, case, cause" (由) (yu) and "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka).
- 由佳 - "reason, case, cause" (由) (yu) and "good, beautiful" (佳) (ka).
