It was included in the Kimi ni Todoke FANBOOK. The chapter features Eiji Akahoshi, who was a character from Shiina's previous work Crazy For You. The content page before the short chapter confirms that Eiji and Sawako are cousins, and that Eiji's mother is the older sister of Sawako's father.[1]
Summary[]
Eiji Akahoshi, who is now a college student, visits the Kuronuma house and is greeted by Sawako’s mother. As a gift, Eiji’s brought a souvenir from a trip his mother went on. Mrs. Kuronuma is overjoyed by the present, then tells Eiji that Sawako isn’t home but she’s certain that she’ll be back soon. She informs Eiji that Sawako has become beautiful, and tells him to wait in Sawako's room while she makes some coffee. In Sawako’s room, Eiji wonders about his aunt’s words about his cousin having become beautiful. He looks around the room and finds a drawing on Sawako’s desk. He examines the paper and wonders if she wants to be a designer or if she was drawing a self-portrait, but then he notices that the paper says “Kazehaya tomorrow” and “expectation.” This leaves him even more confused, and he wonders if the drawing is of a guy who she has unrequited feelings for. Just as he catches sight of a picture frame, Sawako enters the room. She's wearing the clothes from her first date with Kazehaya.[2]
He greets Sawako and comments that she has indeed changed, but his cousin is focused on the picture frame that he’s holding. With a flustered face, Sawako tries to grab the picture frame, but Eiji keeps it away from her.
It’s a picture of Kazehaya with Ryu in the background. He asks if that's the guy she likes, and she mutters that he is, which Eiji considers terrible because he seems popular. Sawako confirms Kazehaya's popularity and lists his good traits. Eiji thinks to himself that first loves don't come true, but then Sawako's phone rings – it's from Kazehaya. Eiji stands shocked while she speaks on the phone because he thought it was a case of unrequited love. After she hangs up, Eiji asks if she has a boyfriend. Sawako answers yes, then tries to run off to get Eiji a drink, but he tells her that his aunt is already preparing coffee. Eiji looks around at all of the pictures in Sawako's room, of her with Chizuru and Ayane, and asks if high school has been fun. She smiles and says it is. Eiji smiles back and thinks to himself that she's changed a lot. Sawako then asks if he had fun in high school. He says it was fun[3] and that he's still friends with the people from back then, which delights Sawako.[4]
Later, Mr. Kuronuma comes home and greets his nephew and asks why he's leaving already. Eiji smiles and places a hand on his uncle's shoulder. Mr. Kuronuma questions why Eiji is comforting him, but Eiji simply says he "doesn't know" before saying goodbye.[4]
