Haruka Katayama (片山 はるか, Katayama Haruka), later Haruka Sanada (真田 はるか, Sanada Haruka), is the wife of Toru Sanada, who got married in May during the second year of high school for the main cast, which includes Toru's younger brother Ryu Sanada.

Appearance[]

Haruka is a short, petite woman, with mid-length brown hair with bangs in the front. She is seen to be polite and sweet towards the others. Even though she only appears a few times, she is seen wearing mostly cardigans, skirts, and pastels.

Personality[]

According to Toru Sanada, Haruka is "fierce", despite her gentle, well-mannered conduct while visiting the Sanada household, as seen by Ryu Sanada, Chizuru Yoshida and several others.

Background[]

Haruka appears to be from Sapporo, having met Toru Sanada while he was living there for college and work. It is unclear how long Haruka and Toru have known each other before announcing their engagement, although it is estimated to be no longer than six years.

Around a year after their wedding, Haruka gave birth to her first child named Ayu Sanada. It is not until they visit the Sanada household again at the end of that year in Vol. 28 Ch. 113, that Chizuru interacts with Haruka again, this time with her daughter as well. They appear to get along well with each other.

Etymology[]

  • The name Haruka is written in hiragana (はるか), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (遥, 春花 or 晴香), it could possibly mean:
    • 遥 - "distant, remote".
    • 春花 - "spring" (春) (haru) and "flower, blossom" (花) (ka).
    • 晴香 - "clear weather" (晴) (haru) and "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka).
  • Haruka's surname Katayama means "single, piece" (片) (kata) and "mountain, hill" (山) (yama).
    • Her married name Sanada means "braid, plait" (真田).
